Tras el cristal

TRAS EL CRISTAL (1987). Agustí Villaronga. Spain. 107 min

Doctor Klaus (Günter Meisner) survives a fall from the top of a tower. He lives in a villa with his wife Griselda (Marisa Paredes) and their daughter who is paralysed from head to foot and has to remain connected up to a mechanical lung within a steel and glass capsule similar to a coffin. An enigmatic young man, Ángelo (David Sust), comes into their home and offers his services to the family to look after a person whose dark past seems familiar to him. Blackmailed, Klaus asks him to stay and despite his wife's mistrust, the stranger becomes their nurse. It doesn't take long for a perverse and twisted relationship to blossom between them. Brave and impressive debut in the realm of feature films by Agustí Villaronga –El niño de la Luna (1989), Black Bread (2010)–, In a Glass Cage is a ghostly allegory on domination and evil.
